Frequently Asked Questions

Honest answers about how Faith works and what it does with your information.

Last updated: May 7, 2026

Is my information completely private, or is it sent to AI services with my user information attached?

Your email address and account identity are never sent to the AI services that generate Faith's responses. The only things that leave our server when Faith calls an AI service are:

Your email address, your account ID, your conversation history, and anything else that could identify you stays inside Faith's own database. The AI provider that generates the response sees the question and the spiritual passages — that's all. They cannot connect what they see back to a real person.

Two cases where your email is used (and disclosed in our privacy policy):

If you delete your account, all of the above is removed from Faith's database (see privacy policy, section 11). For the complete list of third-party services Faith uses, see our Sub-Processors page.

What is Faith?

Faith is a place to think carefully about questions of the soul. It listens to what you ask, finds passages from a deep library of spiritual writing — Scripture, the saints, prayer books, theological reflection — and weaves a thoughtful, citation-supported response in the warm voice of an older sibling who has walked the path with the same questions.

Faith is a companion for thinking, not a guru. It does not predict the future, prescribe rituals, hand down judgments, or perform sacramental acts. It tries to hand you the right passage at the right moment and ask the next honest question.

Is Faith a replacement for a priest, therapist, or spiritual director?

No. Faith is a starting place — a way to think clearly. For sacramental matters, please see a priest. For the long work of the soul, find a spiritual director. For mental-health concerns, please see a counselor or therapist. Faith is the friend who hands you the right book at the right time, not the one who walks the whole road with you.

If you are in immediate danger or considering self-harm, please call 988 (US/Canada) or your local emergency number. Faith will pause and remind you of this if it senses crisis in your message, but it is not a substitute for professional help.

Where do the answers come from?

Faith reads from Sacred Scripture and from centuries of trusted spiritual writing — the early Church Fathers, the great saints (Augustine, Teresa of Ávila, John of the Cross, Catherine of Siena, Thomas à Kempis, and many others), the Catechism, and contemporary devotional writers. Every answer carries citations to the source passages so you can read them yourself.

The library is curated rather than encyclopedic. Faith doesn't try to give every possible perspective on every possible question — it tries to give one careful response anchored in writings the Church has trusted for a long time.

Is Faith free?

Yes. Faith is supported by donations from people who have been helped by it. There is no paywall and no premium tier — every feature is available without a credit card. If Faith helps you and you want to support it, you can donate any amount from inside the app. We are not a registered charity, so donations are not tax-deductible.

What if I'm not Catholic? Or not Christian at all?

You are welcome here. Faith is rooted in the Catholic Christian tradition — that's what its library reflects honestly — but the questions of the soul are larger than any single tradition. Many of the saints in our library spoke to people of every belief and none. If you bring an honest question, you'll be met with an honest answer. We do not require any belief to use Faith.

You may find that the language of Christian spirituality says something true to you even if you do not share its theology. You may find that it doesn't. Either is welcome.

What if I'm in a crisis right now?

If you are thinking about self-harm, are in immediate danger, or are facing acute abuse: please call 988 (US/Canada) or your local emergency number. Faith is built to recognize crisis signals in your message and will pause its normal flow to remind you of the lifeline — but Faith is not, and was never built to be, a substitute for professional crisis support.

If you are experiencing more general grief or distress — the kind that does not need an emergency number but deserves to be heard — Faith will sit with you. Many of the saints knew this kind of pain and wrote about it; Faith can hand you their words.

Why does Faith sometimes pause to ask if it understood my question?

Some questions arrive with a thousand possible meanings. When Faith senses one of those, it pauses and gives you a short reflection in its own words, then asks if it has understood. You can confirm, refine, or rephrase. This is how Faith makes sure it is meeting you, not the surface of your question.

You can always type your question more directly the second time. Faith is not trying to slow you down — it is trying to listen carefully.

In what languages can I use Faith?

Faith answers in the language of your question. The library includes spiritual writing in many original languages (Latin, Spanish, Italian, and others); when Faith quotes a non-English source, it translates it for you. Faith is currently available in English, Spanish (Latin American / neutral), Italian, French, Portuguese, German, Malayalam, Polish, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Indonesian, with more being added.

Can I delete my conversation history?

Yes. From inside the app, you can delete individual conversations or your entire account. When you delete an account, all of your data — email, account ID, conversations, messages — is removed from Faith's database. See section 11 of our privacy policy for detail.

More questions coming. If there's something specific you'd like an honest answer to — about how Faith works, where its sources come from, what it does and doesn't try to do — write to us at [email protected] and we'll add it.
